For which area of application do I need the community licence?

The community licence applies to commercial cross-border road freight transport between all EU/EEA countries.
EEA countries: all EU countries plus Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland

There is a trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the EU, which regulates, among other things, the use of the Community licence or British licence and the possibilities for cabotage.

According to the “Agreement between the European Community and the Swiss Confederation on Freight and Passenger Transport by Rail and Road”, the community licence is also valid

• for commercial cross-border freight traffic between EU countries and Switzerland

For German transport companies, the community licence is valid as a permit according to § 3 Road Freight Transport Act (GüKG) with the conditions according to § 5 Road Freight Transport Act (GüKG).

Further information can be found in the Road Freight Transport Act and in the European Ordinance 1072/2009.
